No te dejes estafar: Concientización sobre el fraude a personas mayores
Scammers target older adults every day and their tactics are getting more convincing. Know the signs and protect yourself and your loved ones.
Common elder scams to watch for:
- Imposter scams — fake government officials or relatives claiming to be in distress
- Prize & lottery scams — you “won,” but must pay fees or taxes first
- Tech support scams — callers claim there’s a problem with your computer and request access or payment
- Financial exploitation — someone pressuring you for money or access to your accounts
Remember:
- Never share personal or financial information
- Be skeptical of unsolicited calls, emails, or texts
- Don’t feel pressured to act immediately
- When in doubt, hang up and check it out
If you think you’ve been scammed or have a question, contact the Village of Mamaroneck Police Department at 914-777-1122. In an emergency, always call 911.
